Literature Text

A young shadow being at about the age of five wandered around a shady town that seemed to be bustling about. He looked around, a look of confusion and fear upon his face.
Nearby, a sorcerer cursed as a warp spell went wrong. He happened to end up in this small town in the realm known as the Shadow Realm. The mage glanced around the shadowy realm, not recognizing his surroundings. As he walked around, he happened to bump into the young shadow with the lost look upon his face.
“Are you… lost?” the mage asked as he looked down at the shadow being. The younger of the two simply hesitated before nodding, taking a shaky breath as he looked around, seeming to be looking for somebody or something.
“W-who… who are you?” the young shadow being nervously asked the sorcerer.
“…my name is Vaati. What’s yours?” the mage questioned, crouching down to the other’s level.
“…S-Shadow,” he stuttered, seeming to have a bit of a lisp because his fangs were just growing in.
“Can you help me find Mommy and Daddy?” Shadow asked Vaati, giving him a look that nobody could resist.
“Um… sure,” Vaati said, hesitating at first. “Where did you see them last?”
“O-over there,” Shadow answered, pointing in what seemed to be a random direction. The sorcerer looked in the direction the shadow was pointing.
“Alright, I’ll tell you this. You wait here while I go and look around for your parents, okay?” Vaati offered. Shadow nodded in agreement.
“I’ll be right back,” Vaati answered, giving a warm smile before heading off in the direction Shadow pointed in earlier.
After about thirty minutes of looking around the small village, the sorcerer returned to the young shadow.
“I’m… sorry. Nobody here seemed to know where your parents could have gone,” Vaati admitted, hoping that the young shadow wouldn’t start bawling his eyes out.
Shadow then began to cry, immediately hugging Vaati’s legs like any child would. Clearly, he was scared, not knowing what to do now.
Vaati stood there, not knowing what to do. He lightly patted the other on the back.
“There, there. It’s going to be alright,” he said, trying to reassure the other.
After a moment of nothing being said, Shadow soon calmed down a bit. Vaati then spoke.
“…would you like to come and stay with me?” the sorcerer offered. Shadow looked up at him, wiping tears from his eyes. He sniffled, simply nodding.
“Alright… wait here. I’ll be right back.” With this, Shadow broke the hug and Vaati walked off before vanishing. To his luck, he arrived at the Palace of Winds. The sorcerer sighed as he walked around his palace, soon coming upon a tall, slim mirror. A dark aura seemed to surround it.
The mage stopped in front of the mirror, known as the Dark Mirror. He lightly placed a hand on it before closing his eyes, summoning some magic. The reflection in the mirror seemed to swirl, looking as if it were opening a portal.
Before Shadow knew it, a dark portal appeared in front of him. He looked at it, confused. Slowly, he walked towards it, sticking a hand in the shadowy portal as it seemed to disappear. The young shadow then walked into the portal, engulfed in the darkness, the portal closing behind him.
Focusing, the sorcerer continued to pull the young shadow being through the mirror. However, his concentration broke as his mind seemed to float off into a realm of its own. The sorcerer shook his head, opening his eyes as a headache soon came on. Giving a huff, he went back to summoning the shadow through the Dark Mirror.
Soon enough, the shadow roughly landed on cold, marble flooring, coughing as a Dark goop seemed to cover him, which was clearly darkness from the portal he was summoned through. He took a shaky breath, opening his eyes as he looked up at Vaati, letting out a startled yell as he quickly scooted back from the other.
“...what’s wrong?” Vaati asked, going over to Shadow and crouching down by him. The shadow being pulled his knees to his chest, obviously scared.
“Don’t you remember me?” the sorcerer asked the frightened shadow. Shadow shook his head, not knowing who the mage was.
Vaati cursed under his breath. He screwed up the spell he was using to summon Shadow through the mirror.
“W-who are you?” Shadow questioned as if they’ve just met for the first time.
“My name is Vaati,” the sorcerer responded simply, looking the young shadow being in the eyes.
“W-where’s Mommy and Daddy?” the young shadow asked the mage.
“I…. I don’t know,” Vaati answered.
“Are you my Daddy?” he asked the mage.
“…no, I’m not,” Vaati responded. Tears began to form in the corners of the young shadow’s eyes.
“A-are you… are you my master?” Shadow asked hesitantly, almost on the edge of crying his eyes out again. It was the last thing he could think of to ask Vaati. Master is what his father called the man who taught him the way of the sword.
Not wanting to see Shadow cry again, Vaati quickly responded with a yes. The shadow suddenly lunged out and hugged the other, sniffling slightly.
“Shh, it’s alright,” the sorcerer said, lightly rubbing the shadow’s back.

From then on, Vaati raised Shadow as if he was his own son. After seeing the bravery shown by the hero, Link, the sorcerer wanted Shadow to grow up to be just like Link. However, that did not happen. Shortly after Vaati had brought the young shadow into his Palace of Winds, the sorcerer’s counterpart from the Shadow Realm that Shadow had came from appeared. Vaati referred to him as Gufuu.
An incident occurred one night after Vaati had put Shadow to bed. Gufuu began to pester Vaati, threatening to hurt Shadow, even kill him, if Vaati did not get rid of him. Gufuu made up his mind that he would be the only shadow around the Palace of Winds.
Vaati refused, which just made things worse. The dark, shadowy counterpart of the sorcerer then attacked Vaati, causing the mage to hit his head, resulting in him passing out. A darkness seemed to settle into his body while he was unconscious.
The next morning, Vaati stumbled to his feet, having a massive headache as his chest felt heavy. He went about the palace, taking care of Shadow as he normally did. Years passed and the sorcerer slowly began to grow much more harsh and demanding. For every little thing Shadow did wrong, he was yelled at and, more than once, was beaten harshly to the point where the shadow would break a few ribs. Vaati did not know why he was acting like this; multiple times, he tried to stop the terrible beatings Shadow was receiving, but he could never stop it for some unknown reason. Slowly, Shadow became Vaati’s personal slave, doing whatever he was asked to do. He knew that if he didn’t do what he was told, then it would result in beatings that always seemed to hurt more than the last.
((Here is Shadow's back story that I wrote myself. This is just so that you guys can get a general idea of what Shadow has been through.
If you haven't realized it, Shadow has lost his memory from his early childhood and his life is now connected to the Dark Mirror because, when Vaati pulled him through the mirror, something went wrong.
Thanks for reading.))
